Audition Information
Students should be prepared to perform two contrasting selections that best demonstrate their technical and musical skills. One work should show virtuosity. Although it is recommended that students use their own accompanist, an MIC staff accompanist will be available for auditions. Students may only audition one time per school year, on one instrument. All applicants must audition at MIC in person unless he/she lives more than 250 miles from the campus. A DVD may be submitted with permission.
- Auditions will consist of three elements:
- A performance Component
- A written musicianship exam
- A brief interview with applicant and parent(s)

Minimum level requirements:
- Senior Program (All Instruments)
- Students should be studying major literature for the instrument including Romantic concerti
- Junior Program (Strings and Piano)
- Minimum level equivalent to the following repertoire:
- Violin: Mozart Concerto No. 3 in G major
- Viola: Telemann Concerto
- Cello: Haydn C major Concerto
- Bass: TBD
- Piano: Beethoven Concerto 2
- Though prior chamber music experience is not required, Junior Academy students should be able to learn parts at the level of Beethoven Piano Trios and Mozart String Quartets
