Nichols Concert Hall

Evanston, IL — The Music Institute of Chicago (MIC) presents “Let’s Make Music,” a fun and interactive children’s program for elementary-age audiences. Free and open to the public, the concert takes place Saturday, March 13 at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue in downtown Evanston. The event begins at 9 am with an open house featuring an instrument petting zoo, early childhood demos, and refreshments, followed by a concert at 10 am performed by MIC ensemble-in-residence Axiom Brass Quintet.

“Let’s Make Music” is a multicultural, educational music program that introduces students to the world of classical music. This interactive concert takes children on an exciting journey around the world, using music to explore different cultures. During the concert, Axiom Brass will perform musical selections from Germany, Cuba, the U.S., Belgium, and other countries. The program also will provide entertaining facts about the composers and the music itself, exploring unique characteristics of each brass instrument and important musical concepts.

About Children’s Concerts at MIC
MIC offers engaging one-hour programs geared toward children 4–12 years of age. A special feature of each concert is the instrument petting zoo, which offers children the opportunity to touch and play a variety of instruments and talk to MIC teachers prior to the main stage performance.

About Axiom Brass
The award-winning Axiom Brass Quintet has quickly established itself as a major brass chamber music group. Winners of the 2008 International Chamber Brass Competition held at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, and Brass Quintet-in-Residence at the Music Institute of Chicago, the ensemble has worked with prominent musicians such as Cliff Colnot, Mallory Thompson, and Vincent DiMartino.
