Participants will come away with stronger skills as a singing actor in this challenging, positive, and intensive environment. Assessment, positive criticism, and goal-setting will open doors to a greater understanding of the singer's art, and help the student to recognize his or her own strengths and needs. Solo and ensemble work reflect the balance of independent study and group practice unique to opera and musical theater training.
SCHEDULE
Each day begins with a complete physical rediness regimen including: yoga, tai chi, improvisational movement, and dance routine to strengthen and coordinate the body and mind, and prepare the individual for focused work in acting and singing.
Morning work focuses around a master class.
Students may bring their lunch, or visit downtown Evanston cafes/restaurants
Afternoon study include private learning or small group classes. In addition to two voice lessons during the week, each student will rotate through a series of classes to develop skills in acting, diction, repertoire, and musicianship
Each day closes with rehearrsal for the final performance. Scenes from opera and musical theater and song repertoire for small ensembles will be coached and staged for presentation in Nichols Concert Hall.
Final Public Performance: Friday, August 6 at 7:30 pm, Nichols Concert Hall.
