Explore world music through MIC's Evanston Escola de Samba program. Students of all ages move their hands and feet and learn about Brazilian dance and music.

Come and join the Evanston Escola de Samba, a fun and fast-paced intergenerational program in Brazilian music and dance. Learn to play percussion instruments of the Brazilian Bateria and dance to the fascinating rhythms used in the "Carnaval" parades of Rio de Janeiro. There will be performance opportunities throughout the year in collaboration with the professional ensemble, Orquestra de Samba, an ensemble in residence at the Music Institute of Chicago. Instruments are provided, sponsored in-part by Contempora of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Members of the Evanston Escola de Samba have appeared at events such as: Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival, Old Town School of Folk Music's "La Pe" Chicago Summer Dance, Skokie Festival of Cultures, and Nichols Concert Hall.  For more information about Evanston Escola de Samba click here.
