Founded in 1975, the Institute for Therapy through the Arts is one of the few comprehensive community-based
arts therapy programs in the United States that offers all four arts modalities – Music, Drama, Art,
and Dance/Movement therapies. ITA’s mission is to provide, facilitate, develop and research therapeutic
experiences using the creative arts process for individuals with challenges caused by psychological, developmental,
physical or systemic factors.
ITA is nationally recognized and has distinguished itself in the use of integrated arts approaches to help
children and adults with disabilities find healthy and positive ways to express themselves. ITA is currently
serving approximately 2,500 individuals at 92 sites in Cook, DuPage, Lake, and McHenry counties. In addition
to three in-house clinic locations, ITA makes an impact through key partnerships at schools, adult day centers,
hospitals, a drug rehabilitation center, and a domestic violence shelter.
ITA offers one-on-one sessions at the Music Institute of Chicago’s Evanston West (Dempster Street), Highland Park, and Winnetka campuses.
